Lens1st Acquires Lens Express
Livonia, MI, November 26, 2002 - Lens1st, a leading direct to consumer contact lens replacement company, announced today the acquisition of Lens Express, the industry’s 2nd largest contact lens company. Lens1st is owned by Camelot Ventures, a Southfield, Michigan based investment firm.
"Acquiring Lens Express creates enormous opportunities for us" said David Katzman, Chairman of Lens1st. "The operating efficiencies gained by combining the two companies will result in a much stronger bottom line and creates the platform to launch a significantly more aggressive growth strategy. We're taking this business to another level."
Based in Deerfield Beach, Florida, Lens Express pioneered the direct to consumer contact lens industry offering significant savings on factory sealed contact lenses. Started in 1986, Lens Express has sold over 100 million contact lenses to over two million consumers. Consumers calling Lens Express’ toll free number (1-800-Lens Express) or going to their website (www.lensexpress.com) will find a quick and convenient way to buy their replacement contact lenses.
Lens1st was originally founded in 1990 by David Katzman and quickly became one of the nation’s largest contact lens replacement companies. In 1998, the company was sold to K&D Distributors after the Home Depot acquired Mr. Katzman’s other consumer-direct companies. In June 2001, Camelot Ventures reacquired Lens1st. Mr. Katzman serves as the Managing Partner of Camelot Ventures. Future plans and terms of the deal were not announced.
